how coaching works for teams

Team coaching is for newly formed or existing leadership teams, cross-functional task forces, and other professionally tied groups who want to strengthen their effectiveness in working together. Team coaching aims to facilitate the learning of the team as a whole – finding ways for team members to gain insight and practice different behaviors in the context of the team and its goals.

I have extensive experience helping to build healthy and high performing teams. I’ll work with you to customize a team coaching process, including coaching for the team leader and the team as a whole. We’ll use a combination of face-to-face, telephone, and video conferencing, as well as direct team observation and feedback. The process typically begins with an anonymous team self-assessment that provides a baseline for identifying strengths, areas for improvement, and key priorities for team development and team leadership.

Team dynamics differ widely among teams, and I’ll learn the ways in which your specific team works and coach accordingly.

how coaching works for groups

Group coaching is an effective and affordable solution for developing groups of managers or individuals – from the same company or from different companies -- who can discuss common challenges, share ideas, and work together to build their skills over time. The group coaching process is similar to 1:1, but you’d also be learning from and offering help to others. As the group coach, I’d facilitate and spark productive conversation among the team, but the power of this approach is working with peers to get better, solve issues, and generate ideas and insights.  I love that moment when participants come together as a supportive unit, become accountable to each other for improving performance, and demonstrate results in ways that everyone can recognize.

Group coaching can be done in person or via a video platform. Frequency of meetings will vary based on the goals of the engagement, number of participants, how closely they work together, and budget. The process may also include 1:1 coaching sessions where  individuals may discuss unique challenges or issues they would rather not share with the group.

Throughout the group coaching process, we’ll set and maintain ground rules, understand each individual’s and the group’s needs and goals, and work together to measure and achieve progress against those goals.
